A Very Short Story & a poem by NEME

A Christmas Eve's Night

A family gathers to celebrate the Christmas holiday. They come from near and far and all are present: mother, father, sister, brothers, spouses and grandchildren. The warmth of the occasion overwhelms the senses, providing a sharp contrast to the bitter, outside cold where a silent snow continues to fall on deserted streets.

An elegant spruce stands majestically in the corner of the living room. Its fresh scent, colorful lights and intricate ornaments add to the festive atmosphere. A modest nativity scene graces its base and makes one reflect upon the true meaning of Christmas.

Presents have been exchanged; crumpled wrappings clutter the floor. Starry-eyed children ponder new toys with contentment. Conversation is intimate and loving, sibling rivalries long forgotten. Mother and father look proudly over their brood thankful the family is together again.

Life Sucks...Sometimes

You see dear people
Life isn't so fair
You find your true love
But you can't be there

Splitting in two
From this feeling of pain
Pierces the heart
Drives you insane

You promise your love
Straight from the heart
Steal precious moments
Because you're apart

Is it enough
How can that be
Feeling so lonely
Without you by me

Say it's not so
Wish all you may
Truth of the matter
It's just not our day

Time is not a great healer
It just passes by
The soul grows weary
Withers and dies

The truth if you will
Deny you can try
I can't be your all
So I say my goodbye

So remember dear people
Life isn't so fair
When you find your true love
Make sure you are there
