More McKuen

Another Sunday
Save me one long Sunday
tucked away in your young life
rationed to me hourly,
if that has to be,
hired out to me at my own risk.
Not insured against time's accidents
and covered by no policy
except a deed of trust.
Save me one long Sunday
for the following and more:
One - to cycle silently through some new park.
Two - to pencil in the crossword of your living,
(notice I said pencil, knowing you to be
every bit as changeable
and given to forgetfulness as me).
Three - to bribe the bed that it might stay
unmade and wide as Williamsburg,
throughout a day without beginning
and no end.
Four - to hear you soft and steady singing
all those songs
that I have heard you sing before

I typed this poem from the Rod McKuen's Book of Days & 1984 Engagement Calendar. It says the poem is from the book "If You Love Somebody Tell Them, 1971. It's dedicated to Petula Clark.
